Guide to Countertops
Laminate Counters
Wilsonart – Formica
Laminate counters offer hundreds of colors, and patterns and are somewhat durable and low maintenance. These counters are constructed of a thinner material which allows for a rolled edge, but must be installed with a diagonal seam in the corner. Standard laminate counters are available with square or beveled edge design and seams while visible, can be placed in less conspicuous locations.
Solid Surface Counters
Corian – Hi-Macs
Solid Surface counters offer a ten and fifteen year warranty, with a variety of design styles and options. More durable than laminates, these counters require additional maintenance, but are stain resistant. Solid surface counters can be molded and shaped to allow for dozens of custom edge designs, along with seamless sinks and backsplashes. Seams are inconspicuous, and counters can be repaired and refinished to their original condition.
Quartz Counters
Cambria – Zodiaq
Quartz counters are made of engineered stones and are the only stone counters with a ten year warranty. They are extremely durable, non porous and do not require sealing or polishing. Quartz counters are scratch and burn resistant, however seams are somewhat conspicuous and sinks can be undermounted.
Granite Counters
Natural Stone
Granite counters are a natural stone with beautiful graining and colorful patterns. These counters require extra maintenance and sealing to ensure proper performance. Seams are slightly more conspicuous than Quartz counters, but share the same durability.
